Shark Report Form

The Atlantic Shark Institute's Shark Sighting & Encounter Report provides a secure and confidential way for the public, anglers, boaters, divers, beachgoers, researchers, and commercial fishermen to report shark sightings and encounters. These reports play an important role in advancing shark research by helping scientists better understand species distribution, seasonal movements, habitat use, and population trends throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Reports may include observations made from shore, boats, kayaks, drones, or while diving or snorkeling, as well as incidental captures, bycatch, recreational catches, commercial fishing interactions, tagged shark observations, strandings, and other noteworthy encounters. Whether a shark was simply observed swimming, briefly hooked and released, or encountered during normal fishing activities, every report contributes valuable scientific data.
