Toby Daly-Engel

Toby is a molecular ecologist and Associate Professor at the Florida Institute of Technology, and Director of the Florida Tech Shark Conservation Lab. She uses a combination of genomics, telemetry, and modeling to study reproductive strategies, habitat use, and the impacts of climate change on sharks and rays. Originally from upstate New York, Toby got her BA in Biology at Oberlin College and her MS and PhD in Zoology from the University of Hawaii, with a specialization in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology.

 

For over 20 years, she has worked with collaborators from state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, fishermen, and public groups to identify novel sources of biodiversity and develop practical applications for fisheries management. Toby has also mentored dozens of students, and worked extensively to increase representation for women and people of color in marine science.
